Series: Pretty Little Liars #7
Synopsis:

In picturesque Rosewood, Pennsylvania, neighbors gossip over picket fences, and gleaming SUVs sit in every crushed-granite driveway. But recently, friendly smiles have been replaced with suspicious glares and accusatory whispers and it's all because Hanna, Aria, Emily, and Spencer just can't keep their mouths shut. . . .
First they claimed they found a dead body in the woods behind Spencer's house, only to have it vanish without a trace. Then when the same woods went up in flames, they swore they saw someone who's supposed to be dead rise from the ashes. And even after all that, the pretty little liars are still playing with fire.
Hanna's trading in her Dior trench for a straitjacket. Aria's trying to contact the dead. Emily's dumped her boyfriend and is skipping town . . . again. And Spencer thinks someone in her family has gotten away with murder.
The friends insist they're telling the truth about what they saw, but all of Rosewood thinks they're simply out for attention and nobody likes a girl who cries wolf. So when the big bad killer comes after the girls, will anyone believe them . . . or will they be the next to disappear?

Review:
OK, so for those of you who have read Killer (the last book) or any of the other Pretty Little Liars books, you know that the books always end with incredible cliff hangers. And Killer was no exception. So as soon as I finished Killer, I immediately moved on to Heartless and was just as pleased with this book as I was with the last. By the way, there are some mild spoilers below. Sorry!

The cover for Heartless keeps in the theme of the rest of the Pretty Little Liars books; a doll on the front and a actual model on the back. Also in the theme are bright, vibrant colours that stand out against the uniform dark YA cover/ spine in a bookshelf. But with this cover, I was disappointed. When I got the book (in paperback) it was the same colour as the second book, Flawless. The hardcover must have been more peachy though like the picture above, but I found it disappointing because I always look forward to each new colour.

The thing I love about these books are that they stay fairly consistent. The characters grow, but don't become completely different people. The writing and story also are fairly consistent as well. They retain all the mystery and 'A' caused fun that I've come from these books. And honestly, I like the new 'A' better than the first one. I mean the mind games that 'A' played on the girls this time were crazy! I couldn't figure them out myself until the end where they were explained. That's why I love these books, they are so mysterious and complicated while at the same time they're still readable for a teen and they're not too hard to read.

So after finishing Heartless, I can't wait to get my hands on the final book (for now*) and devour that one as well. Overall, this book was a great lead up to what I'm sure will be a shocking conclusion to this epic series.

*PS: Did you guys hear about the next Pretty Little Liars book? It comes out summer 2011 and it's called Twisted. What new twists could be in store for the Pretty Little Liars? I guess you'll just have to wait and find out :)
