Synopsis:
Will Lizzie’s pride and Will’s prejudice keep them apart? Or are they a prom couple in the making? Whatever the result, Elizabeth Eulberg, author of The Lonely Hearts Club, has concocted a very funny, completely stylish delight for any season — prom or otherwise.
Review:
Prom and Prejudice was a book that had a colourful cover that caught my eye and had some very positive reviews going for it as well. So when I picked it up from the library, I knew I was in for a good ride. When I first started reading I immediatly fell for the characters and their personalities, but not always their decisions. In fact, my only problem with my the book was the poor decisions that many of the characters made. Apart from all of that, I loved the style of writing and the underlying tone of the classic Pride and Prejudice story. At times the story became predictable, but not too often. Overall, I think that Prom and Prejudice was a good, fast read that makes me really want to read Pride and Prejudice. It gets a 4/5.
After winter break, the girls at the very prestigious Longbourn Academy become obsessed with the prom. Lizzie Bennet, who attends Longbourn on a scholarship, isn’t interested in designer dresses and expensive shoes, but her best friend, Jane, might be — especially now that Charles Bingley is back from a semester in London.
Lizzie is happy about her friend’s burgeoning romance but less than impressed by Charles’s friend, Will Darcy, who’s snobby and pretentious. Darcy doesn’t seem to like Lizzie either, but she assumes it’s because her family doesn’t have money. Clearly, Will Darcy is a pompous jerk — so why does Lizzie find herself drawn to him anyway?

Author: Nicholas Sparks
Publisher: Grand Central Publishing
Release: March 1, 2010
Pages: 463
Series: None
Synopsis:
Her parents' divorce left 17-year-old Veronica Miller embittered and confused. Three years later, "Ronnie" still seethes with anger toward her father, a musician and teacher who has abandoned hectic New York City for the quiet beach town of Wilmington, North Carolina. Nevertheless, she reluctantly agrees to her mother's altruistic plan that for the good of all concerned, she should visit her estranged father in his new home. As the story of The Last Song unfolds, novelist Nicholas Sparks weaves his magic, threading together the intricate story of three very different people tied inextricably together.
Review:
First off, I would just like to point out the fact that Nicholas Sparks books never fail to make me cry. That also never fails to get me weird looks. Never the less, The Last Song was another epic love story with a bittersweet ending that will keep you up thinking about it for nights. The writing in The Last Song was fantastic, gripping the reader's emotions with a titanium fist, never once letting go. The storyline moved quickly, but you never felt like you lost out on anything with this stand alone book. The characters were young compared to ones of previous Nicholas Sparks novels I've read, as Ronnie and Will are just done high school in this book. I also adored the supporting characters of The Last Song and the effects that they had on the story. This book gets a 5/5 for sure for being my favorite Nicholas Sparks book so far. I can't wait to read many more of his awesome books in the future. - 3:30 PM

Synopsis: *Contains Spoilers!!!*
All was perfect in Julia’s life until Nicholas had his vampire blood-lust activated by his mother Alora, her immortal enemy, turning him evil and bent on revenge. Heartbroken and out of choices, Phil and Julia ran away in the middle of the night, with Scarlett on foot, to Orange County to warn and plead Nicholas’ Godfather for help. Once arriving at Harry’s though, the local coven accosted them and they narrowly escaped.
After they returned home, there was a huge showdown between Phil, Nicholas, Scarlett, Alora, Katie and Julia. Alora almost got what she wanted—Julia’s vampire warding talisman—but Preston, Nicholas’ father, and Harry came to the rescue. They escorted Nicholas and Alora back to Beverly Hills, pledging to return Nicholas free from his blood-lust. But all Julia’s received in the past four months is a letter stating Nicholas missed her along with some song lyrics and promise of a quick return. That was a month ago.
Now Julia awaits Nicholas’ return with the Fab Five Coven: Phil and Katie—the sober vampires, Scarlett—the half-vamp/shape-shifter, and Tyler and Julia—the inducted humans. She’s stuck in Scotts Valley with Phil as her self-appointed chaperon and no way to return to Los Angeles to check on Nicholas. Only Scarlett and Julia know her fate ultimately involves the demise of all vampires, possibly including the ones she loves. When the time comes, will she even have a choice?

Review:
When I first saw Claire de Lune, I wasn't sure I had enough time to read it, with the length of my to-read pile. But when I saw it at my library, I went for it and finished it in two days. My favorite part? The uniqueness of the world that the author created. I've never read anything like this book. I loved how close the world was to ours, but how different it truly was. The characters were fairly good, but at times they seemed a little too perfect and almost stereotypical in a way. I liked the way the werewolves were so intertwined to each other and how loyal they were to the pack, it really made them seem a lot more wolf than human. The story kept moving right along for the most part and the writing was quite enjoyable. And the cover is really pretty, even more so than the pictures on the Internet (it has some pretty awesome swirls going on). I am very excited about the next book in the series and in the meantime, Claire de Lune gets a 4/5.

Series: Possession #1
Source: Advance copy thanks to Simon & Schuster Canada
Synopsis:
Vi knows the Rule: Girls don't walk with boys, and they never even think about kissing them. But no one makes Vi want to break the Rules more than Zenn...and since the Thinkers have chosen him as Vi's future match, how much trouble can one kiss cause? The Thinkers may have brainwashed the rest of the population, but Vi is determined to think for herself.
But the Thinkers are unusually persuasive, and they're set on convincing Vi to become one of them...starting by brainwashing Zenn. Vi can't leave Zenn in the Thinkers' hands, but she's wary of joining the rebellion, especially since that means teaming up with Jag. Jag is egotistical, charismatic, and dangerous--everything Zenn's not. Vi can't quite trust Jag and can't quite resist him, but she also can't give up on Zenn.
This is a game of control or be controlled. And Vi has no choice but to play.

Review:
Recently I got a surprise package in the mail from Simon & Schuster Canada. I was pretty excited when I saw Possession after I opened that package. I had to finish reading another book before I could start in on Possession but as soon as I was done the other book, I dove into this one. It took me a while as I've been really busy lately, but I read whenever I could.
Needless to say, the cover is so cool (bad pun... I'm sorry). It features a butterfly trapped in a ice cube with a small drip coming off the corner. The whole theme of the cover is very simple but it works well. I love the assortment of fonts they use on this cover, especially the one they use for the authors name, it's very cursive looking. The colours on the cover just pop against the white background, putting focus on the butterfly and the tag line. I always seem to love simple covers, but I think they just appeal to me the most.
The characters in Possession were not my favorite. I found the main character, Violet, to be very indecisive and unsure of herself a lot of the time. One minute she was madly in love with Jag, and the next she didn't want to see him again, though often he did things to annoy her into this reaction. I also found Jag to be a little unpredictable, but in a kind of cute bad boy type way. I loved his bad boy attitude, it was a great contrast to Violet. Zenn was also enjoyable to read about, if not a little bit too safe at times. Needless to say, I am firmly on Team Jag.
The writing style that Elana has is very unique. It grabs you and holds you to each pages until you finish the book. In fact, even after the book is done you are left wondering and thinking about the book. The storyline however, was lacking at times. There was stretchs of time that lost me and left me wondering what had just happened, though there was a ton of awesome action and romance scenes along the way.
Overall, Possession was a decent dystopian read that anyone who has not read any dystopian should definately pick up. It did wet my appetite, and I will be picking up the next book when it comes out, but until then, Possession gets a 3.5/5.

Review:
Okay, hands up for who has not read The Mortal Instruments Series. All of you with your hands up should be going to the store now to get this awesome series. Unfortunately, I was one of those people for far too long. I just began to read this series in late 2010 and have loved them ever since. Needless to say, when my copy from Simon & Schuster Canada showed up in the mail I freaked out and read it as soon as I opened the package. I was not at all surprised to be completely engrossed in it by Chapter Two and not be able to put it down at all the entire time.
Have you ever seen a more gorgeous cover than one of The Mortal Instruments Series? They all look good together, they use stunning colours and the models are all perfect for the characters they portray. And they also keep the same theme. They have not chosen to change the covers in the middle of the series or changed the theme in the second part of the series. That really impressed me a lot. Plus, the hard cover copies are very light catching and metallic. That grabbed the attention of a lot of people around me when I read and even some of my non-reader friends commented on how nice the covers are.
In City of Fallen Angels, we see the return of the cast of characters from the rest of The Mortal Instruments Series, though a month later. In this book we get to see the characters put through challenges in their lives, relationships and family life that you will never see coming. In addition, we also get to see Jace and Clary as a couple. Also, we see many different sides of Simon through his point of view as well as through the eyes of other characters. The whole time I read the book, one of my favorite parts was the amount of development that all the characters went through.
The writing in all of Cassandra Clare's books, that I've read, is unique and captivating at all times. She has this writing style that clicks with her setting and story that makes it an awesome reading experience. The story itself in City of Fallen Angels is one that keeps the reader on the edge of their seat the entire time. From start to its cruel end. Cruel, you may ask? Yes, cruel. Cruel in the fact that I have to wait a year for the next book to come out to find out what happens to the characters. The end was a huge cliffhanger that I have a very love/ hate relationship with. Overall, City of Fallen Angels is a fantastic read that I think anyone would love.
The best part of City of Fallen Angels? Impossible to pick. My rating is easy for this one: 5/5 without a doubt. If you haven't picked this book up yet, go! Run! Go get it, I promise it is full of awesome.
