When a strange boy tumbles down a river embankment and lands at her feet, seventeen-year-old adrenaline junkie Deznee Cross snatches the opportunity to piss off her father by bringing the mysterious hottie with ice blue eyes home.
Kale has been a prisoner of Denazen Corporation—an organization devoted to collecting “special” kids known as Sixes and using them as weapons—his entire life. And, oh yeah, his touch? It kills. The two team up with a group of rogue Sixes hellbent on taking down Denazen before they’re caught and her father discovers the biggest secret of all. A secret Dez has spent her life keeping safe.
Wow. It looks good and sounds great! And the cover model looks ESPECIALLY good. I really like the colour scheme and font for the title and how dark it looks.
So what do you guys think?

Heart-wrenchingly beautiful, Mia's story will stay with you for a long, long time.
Review:
Recently I borrowed a book from another blogger for the first time (thanks to Makayla from Books Galore) and I found myself to like the book I borrowed. What book? If I Stay by Gayle Forman. Altogether, this book was good, but not the best. The biggest part that fell through for me was the characters. I just didn't feel a connection to any of the characters for some reason. Another point that was not strong in my eyes was how the story was told in flashbacks. I found myself much more interested in the current time than the flashback pieces. My favourite parts of this book were the moments of the present and the emotion I felt at times. These were the moments I lived for in this book, but they unfortunately did not come often enough for my tastes. Though I didn't feel completely connected to the characters in this book and the flashbacks didn't always work with me, I'd give this book a 3/5.

Do I ever have a treat for you guys. This lady is the author of the already popular book The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer, which I loved, and she has answered some of my questions. Let's get started:
I really do enjoy writing all of the characters, but Daniel, Joseph, and Jamie don’t give me trouble the way Mara and Noah sometimes do, so they tend to be the most fun.
2) Your book is based on true events. How did you find out about these events?
2) Your book is based on true events. How did you find out about these events?
It was inspired by some events that actually happened; for example, the building that collapses in the book really did collapse, though I gave the building a fictional name and set it in a fictional town. The full story of how I was inspired to write the book will be posted on www.maradyer.com when it goes live.
3) As a teen going through high school, what was your favourite book?
3) As a teen going through high school, what was your favourite book?
So hard to say; I remember discovering GEEK LOVE by Katherine Dunn in high school, and I still love it so much. I also loved (and love to this day) A WOMAN WARRIOR by Maxine Hong Kingston, LOLITA by Vladimir Nabokov, JURASSIC PARK by Michael Crichton, and THE PICTURE OF DORIAN GRAY by Oscar Wilde.
4) My favourite question: what was your reaction to finding out you would be published?
4) My favourite question: what was your reaction to finding out you would be published?
When the book sold at auction to Simon & Schuster, I was out to dinner with one of my brothers, so the first thing I did was order dessert :)
5) Did you plan the end of The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer? If so, did it change along the way?
5) Did you plan the end of The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer? If so, did it change along the way?
I’ve known the ending for the series since very early on, and knew that the events that occurred at the end of THE UNBECOMING would happen at some point in the story’s timeline, but I didn’t decide that THIS book would end precisely where it does until I was deep into the writing process. That said, it ended exactly the way it had to in order to get to where Mara’s story is eventually going to end up. I can’t wait to share more!

Review:
After receiving this book in the mail, the cover haunted me. It truly stuck with me and when I finally got the chance to read it, I fell in love with the whole book. It was so amazing from cover to cover that I could hardly believe it.
At first the cover was not my favourite, though it really stuck with me. The eyes haunted me with their black veins and wide crevice in the dry desert-like ground. My other favorite part of this cover is the line of people walking in the distance with the city in the horizon. Something about those people just stuck with me. After a while of seeing this cover, my feelings did change about it because of how well the entire thing came together and how curious it made the reader.
Who was my favourite main character of this book? I simply could not pick. I loved all the characters for how they reacted but more for how they survived and made connections to one another. I also liked how there was variety in the character's background story and the way they took to the apocalypse. If I had to choose one favourite secondary character out of all those covered in the book, I would have to pick Daniel. My reasoning is that he was so mysterious and popped up at the strangest of times. I cannot wait to see where his character, or any of the characters for that matter, go and how they grow.
This story successfully delivered a hauntingly potent story that kept me thinking long after I had flipped the last page, which contain a huge cliffhanger. The ending left me begging for more to the extent that I just could not stop thinking about it. This book was set in multiple points of view and I found it to really work. I loved all the characters for how realistic their responses to the seeming end of the world were. I could very much relate to all of the main characters especially the female ones. Aires and Clementine were interesting to read about since I could really relate with them in particular, but I also enjoyed that of Mason and Micheal.
This was just such a captivating book, that it is hard to find any flaws to fault it on whatsoever. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes dystopian, apocalypse books or a good, thrilling book. Altogether, this book gets a 5/5 for being a realistic, fresh take on the apocalypse without the use of zombies.

I would love to see the world of The Iron Fey series be fabricated. ESPECIALLY if it included Puck and Ash.

I know I love it! I love the pretty green used and the book sounds intense. What do you guys think?
Synopsis:
Starting over sucks.
When we moved to West Virginia right before my senioryear, I’d pretty much resigned myself to thick accents, outhouses, dodgyinternet access, and a whole lot of boring. Until I spotted my hotneighbor with his looming height and eerie green eyes. Things were lookingup.
And then he opened his mouth.
Daemon is infuriating. Arrogant.Stab-worthy. We do not get along. At all. But when a stranger attacks meand Daemon literally freezes time with a wave of his hand, well, something…unexpected happens.
The hot alien living next door marked me.
You heard me. Alien. Turns out Daemon and hissister have a galaxy of enemies wanting to steal their abilities, and the markhe left on me has me lit up like Las Vegas strip to the bad guys. The only wayI'm getting out of this alive is by sticking close to Daemon until my alienmojo fades.
If I don't kill him first, that is.

Q. Have you ever wanted a villain to win at the end of a story? If so, which one?
I think the only time I ever felt that way was during The Forbidden Game by LJ Smith. The villan was just so loveable even though he was so evil. Or maybe I'm a sucker for bad boys. Either way.

Many of us primarily read one genre of books, with others sprinkled in. If authors stopped writing that genre, what genre would you start reading? Or would you give up reading completely if you couldn’t read that genre anymore?
I might die if they stopped writing YA. Seriously. If this were to happen, I would probably look to adult fiction to read. I don't think I will ever be able to give up on reading because it is such a large part of my life.

Review:
In YA one creature that doesn't get a lot of fame is the mermaid. The only books I had read about mermaids before Everblue were a long time ago, and most of them were at a middle grade level. So, needless to say, I was intrigued by the idea of reading a YA novel on them.
My favorite part of this cover is that it is so bold. The red of the cover model's hair with the blue of the starfish. Put that alongside the cool font of the title and the blue of the title and together they all work very well. The other aspect of the cover that I found interesting was the line "She wanted her life to change... he wanted his to stay the same.". This line provoked so much curiosity when I read it, after reading that one line, I wanted to read the book. I just adore how the entire cover came together so nicely!
The writing of Everblue was one of my favorite aspects of the book. Just how effectively it enticed the reader and caught their attention. It was able to hold the reader the entire book, never catching in places or getting slow in others. The other part of the writing that I found interesting was that the story was set in two different points of view. Often I don't care for multiple points of view because it can get a little confusing at times or I'll favour one character over the other's point of view. I can honestly say this was one of the best books I've read that was set in multiple points of view because not only did it flow well, but it also never confused the reader as to what each character knew and the other didn't. It also told the story beautifully so you saw both sides of the story.
As I mentioned above, Everblue is set in two very different perspectives, that of Fin and Ashlyn. I fell for both of these characters and I enjoyed the forbidden love feel that the mermaid aspect gave the book. And I really liked how well these two characters went together and how despite the paranormal aspect, they still went through what average high school students do. As for the characters themselves, I really enjoyed reading about them. I found Ashlyn to be relateable and she had a realistic point of view on the world. And Fin was that perfectly mysterious guy that you just want to know more about. At times I felt he was a little selfish, but apart from that I had no issues with him.
Overall, Everblue had a lot going for it with few drawbacks. I would definitely recomend this book to anyone who likes forbidden love, mermaids or just anyone who wants a great read! I cannot wait for the second book to come out so I can see what is going to happen to the characters after that cliffhanger ending. For being so enjoyable and gripping, I give Everblue a 5/5 without question.

Author: Cassandra Clare
Publisher: Simon & Schuster Children's Publishing
Release: March 25, 2008
Pages: 464
Series: The Mortal Instrument #2
Synopsis:
As readers of series starter City of Bones already know, teenager Clary Fray is a Shadowhunter, a demon slayer who has the gift of spotting Downworlder werewolves, vampires, and faeries. She is also an adolescent in an abnormally dysfunctional family: Her mom is in a magically induced coma and her father is probably insane and undoubtedly evil. All of which places Clary in situations that would challenge even the most talented average American girl.
Review:
After reading City of Bones, I immediately dove into City of Ashes. And let me say, it was awesome! I did enjoy this one more than I did City of Bones because I felt more connected to the characters than I did initially because I knew more about them then before. It completely lived up to the reputation that City of Bones set. The writing was just as thought filled and descriptive, as is Cassandra Clare's style. The characters continued to grow into themselves and their relationships throughout the course of the book. After all was said and done, I would give City of Ashes a 4.5/5 for being a great sequel and for making me want not be able to wait until I can read the third book of the series.

Synopsis:
Sixteen-year-old Laurel's world changes instantly when her parents and brother are killed in a terrible car accident. Behind the wheel is the father of her bad-boy neighbor, David Kaufman, whose mother is also killed. In the aftermath of the tragedy, Laurel navigates a new reality in which she and her best friend grow apart, boys may or may not be approaching her out of pity, overpowering memories lurk everywhere, and Mr. Kaufman is comatose but still very much alive. Through it all, there is David, who swoops in and out of Laurel's life and to whom she finds herself attracted against her better judgment. She will forever be connected to him by their mutual loss, a connection that will change them both in unexpected ways.Review: Minor Spoilers Below!!
This was a book that caught my eye when I first saw it. I loved the concept, because I had not read many non-paranormal books as of late. This novel really appealed to me because it seemed so real and raw from the description and when I received this book for review, I knew that I was in for a treat.
The cover of this book is beautiful. It demonstrates the emotions that Laurel might have felt after the accident. It shows her in grief, and how no matter what her setting, she could not stop thinking about the ruins of her life. The cover also makes me think of how she thought of all the what-ifs of the accident. On this cover I really like the font colour and the all around colour theme. I like it because it is not dark or black, but rather it features some colours that I see as hope in Laurel's future.
The characters in this book were very easy to fall for. I immediately fell for Laurel and her entire family, including the members she lost, in just a few pages. I really felt attached to Laurel's family after they died, just as she did. It was the characters that came later that I did not care for as much. They seemed more superficial than Megan, Laurel's best friend, was when she was established in the early pages of the book. As for Laurel, I liked her as a character and I found that I could relate with her, even though I have never been through what she has been through. And love interest wise, I was definitely Team David.
The story of The Beginning of After was good in theory, but I found it just did not deliver. I found some of the events to be a bit repetitive, such as when David would come back. An aspect of the story that I loved was that the book got going into the action very fast, and the back story was given through the action. The writing of this novel was very good, it was what kept me hooked to the book. It was very descriptive and it really let you into Laurel's head. You got to understand why she committed some of her actions and how she dealt with the tragedy. I really enjoyed being in her head and learning about her as a person.
Altogether, this book was an fairly good book, I'm giving it a 4/5 for being a well written book.

Author: Veronica Roth

Release: May 3, 2011

Series: Divergent #1
Synopsis:
Beatrice "Tris" Prior has reached the fateful age of sixteen, the stage at which teenagers in Veronica Roth's dystopian Chicago must select which of five factions to join for life. Each faction represents a virtue: Candor, Abnegation, Dauntless, Amity, and Erudite. To the surprise of herself and her selfless Abnegation family, she chooses Dauntless, the path of courage. Her choice exposes her to the demanding, violent initiation rites of this group, but it also threatens to expose a personal secret that could place in mortal danger. Veronica Roth's young adult Divergent trilogy launches with a captivating adventure about love and loyalty playing out under most extreme circumstances.
I know I was late jumping on the Divergent train, but after finally reading it, I found myself wishing I had read it much earlier. I found myself quite liking Beatrice from the beginning because she wasn't perfect, but she had the courage to make decisions and do what was right for her. I could really relate to her because of her imperfections and I looked up to her because of her bravery. My only problem with this book was that I found it to be a bit sluggish at points of the plot. The writing was great at describing the futuristic setting of the book as well as being informative on how Beatrice dealt with different situations throughout the course of the book. Overall, I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who enjoys distopian books. After all was said and done, I give Divergent a 4.5/5 for being a near perfect read.

Making a Difference: Which book(s) would you put in the hands of
today's teenagers in hopes of making a difference in their lives?
I would give any teen Thirteen Reasons Why. I'm currently reading this book and I think it really makes a difference as to considering multiple sides of a story or how your actions can hurt another hugely.
